Undoubtedly, we are descendants of the Mutia family who uprooted from the island of Bohol and settled in different islands of the Philippines, such as Mindanao, Visayas and Luzon. The Mutia family is traditionally very religious. Another common tradition of this family is keeping the family ties strong in hopes that the future generation can find their way back to their family tree. However, as years went by and with unrecorded genealogy many have perished and those elusive family members who can add a touch of class or notoriety to this family tree have become untouchables.

The Website Originator & Developer - My name is Ofelia Bayutas Mutia, a true-blooded Filipino who continued to yearn in making a difference among the poor. Being poor myself since childhood, I certainly feel and understand the sufferings of many poor Filipinos, especially the children. I have a strong spiritual bond and compassion towards the poor Filipino children because I once stood the ground they stand with bare feet. Like many Filipino-Americans, I yearn for my my family and homeland. By giving back what God has given me - and that is, bringing home hopes and inspiration to my family and the Filipino people is the only way I know I am living my life to the fullest.

I started life with a very insignificant background. I came to life missing and yearning for my mother and in the absence of a father. However, I have always known that the Mutia blood that runs through my veins are thicker than ever. That is because of the Mutia legacy that my my grandfather, Tatay Indong have instilled in me. Life was very harsh to me, but somehow, it didn't matter because I felt the presence of a Divine Force that kept me going. I attended at Southwestern University in Cebu City, and completed my degree requirements for B.S. Food & Nutrition. Unlike those fortunate college girls, I went through a "rough rollercoaster ride" just so I could achieve my goals. Remarkably, fate brought me to the United States with a naive' fairy-tale notion. Undaunted, I struggled the harsh reality of life in a foreign land where there was no one I could call for comfort and help, but the One solid Being, Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of Faith, I stood by Him as He stood by Me... and the rest is my lifetime history.

When I left Macawa, Aloran in 1976, I never knew then when I was coming back. In August of 1998, I was glad to have returned to the Philippines for the first time in 22 years. Feeling like a prodigal child, I felt so remorseful of the years I have lost. Nevertheless, setting foot on my motherland again, I was proud to have maintained that Filipino identity and loyalty. Walking through the aisles of the village where I grew up, I could not help but admire the attractive, natural wonder of the shining seas and greenery. I think it was because most everything that I have left 22 years past were still there, except they were rearranged in different places by earth and time. Undeniably, nostalgic memories hit me as I looked at the grounds and tried to trace my ancestors fading footsteps.

Memories, milestones, and dreams helped me understand my responsibilities as a Filipino-American toward my children, the country I now live in and the families I left behind. Promoting our cultural heritage and strengthening our Mutia values for family ties are noble tasks that each of us must do. Nowadays in the competitive melting pot, we are unsure as to who our Roots are, and as silly as may seem when asked, we are also unsure of our answers. However, like myself you proudly say - "I have a Mutia blood." Today, more and more children who are Mutia descendants seek to define the identity they can call their own. As parents, many of us lack the inclination, time or, for a variety of reasons, the physical, emotional, moral and spiritual capability and commitment to give our children the answer.

And so... in God's Will,... and in answer to our children and children's children, I am committing my life to have this website as my very important lifetime project with two important purposes:

  • To resurrect a dying ancestry, and
  • To strengthen a weakening legacy
